I hope everyone had a very happy holiday season. The economy is pretty scary right now, but I have great hope that it will resolve over the next couple of years. Don't expect it to heal overnight, it's in extremely critical condition!
Take time to spend with your family and friends and get back to the basics of life. This may even help a lot of people to relax and be far less stressed in the long run.

New grads can expect to face a few bumps along the way their first year. That wonderful air of confidence and idealism about setting the world on fire doesn't last long.
Along comes the
NCLEX and suddenly your brain seems empty. Is it possible to have forgotten everything you learned these past few years?!!! NO! It's all still there, you're just having the first of many anxiety attacks almost every new nurse experiences.

It's traditional graduation season. Congratulations to all the new grads and to those who will be new grads in the coming weeks. Welcome to nursing!
Expect to give yourself a full year before you feel comfortable in this new role. You might think that sounds silly right now, but in time you'll understand exactly what I mean.

Each year as Nurses Week approaches, I ask nurses to think about
why they became a nurse. Sometimes the stress of the job gets us down and we forget why we became nurses. Remembering what sparked that interest and why we chose to try to
make a difference in someone's life everyday helps us to find a renewed sense of who we are as nurses.
